The historic Mont Vernon General Store that has been a landmark to the town since the mid 1800s and was up for auction last Thursday. Unfortunately, almost no one showed up. For $150,000 the Monadnoock Community Bank of Peterborough purchased the property and the adjoining residential lot next door.
Auctioneer Steve Bonnette was running the auction expecting several people to show up after having received “a half a dozen calls earlier in the day”.
The Mont Vernon General Store is currently filled with empty shelves which will be removed prior to the bank trying to sell the property, according to a Nashua Telegraph interview with Monadnock Community Bank representative Wayne Gordon.
Former operator Julie Whitcomb was on hand for the auction but had no intention of making a bid.
