Souhegan board member pleads guilty and resigns

Souhegan Cooperative School Board member, Dana Redmond of Amherst, resigned in a letter dating June 28, 2010 citing “personal reasons”. This comes after pleading guilty to two Class A misdemeanors for using a false prescription to obtain Percocet, a controlled substance, from the Costco pharmacy in Nashua.

According to court documents, the transactions alledgedly took place Dec. 19, 2009 and Feb 2, 2010. Redmond was arrested May 20th by the State Police Narcotics Unit. Redmond agreed to two, one year sentences in the Hillsborough County Department of Corrections and to pay fine of $2000 and $1000 as part of his guilty plea.

According to an article posted by the Nashua Telegraph on July 15, 2010, it states:

Dana W. Redmond, 55, of 86 Mack Hill Road, Amherst, agreed to two, one-year sentences in the Hillsborough County Department of Corrections, both suspended, and to pay a fine of $2,000, $1,000 suspended, in exchange for his guilty plea on the charges.

Redmond is long time resident of Amherst and has been active with the Amherst Recreation Committee, the School District’s Ways and Means Committee, Long Range Planning committees and several terms with the Amherst School Board before being elected to the Souhegan Coopeerative School Board. Redmond has also been a self-employed real estate agent for the past 8 years.

Souhegan board Chairman Steve Coughlin says he is notifying the board and plans to accept Redmond’s resignation letter tonight at a regularly scheduled board meeting.
