Sabers return from Portsmouth with another victory
Souhegan 23, Portsmouth 14
The Souhegan Saber defense came up big again as the boys football team beat Portsmouth on the road 23-14 and improving their season record to 2-0. In the second quarter the defense made a strong three-and-out after special teams missed the extra point. The offense took over moving the ball down the field for the second Saber touchdown of the night. The defense came up big again towards the end of the fourth quarter forcing Portsmouth to toss up two interceptions.
The Souhegan offense put 23 points on the board and was able to move the ball down the field throughout the game however penalties and fumbles kept the game close. Quarterback Michael Luks ended the game with 23 passes for 372 yards, 3 touchdowns and a 2-point conversion. Brendan McKenna was on the receiving end of a 20-yard touchdown pass and a 21-yard TD both in the second quarter. Christoper Chininsis brought the ball into the end zone for the 2-point conversion. Matt Schagrin brought a 37-yard pass down the right sideline for the team’s other touchdown.
In their next game, Souhegan hosts Goffstown on September 17th at the high school.
